Ravenous Nightmares

Catacombs of Toronto (Part I and II)

Following dropping off the car, Noah, Rayan and Delilah have a quiet ride and return to Typo. While on the way, Rayan makes plans to meet with the mage Kathi Chance regarding the mysterious ritual murders beneath the graveyard.

She agrees to meet at a starbucks near Typo, but insists on inviting her friend, another mage named Elle.

Rayan implores Kathi and Elle to aid him in his efforts to unite supernatural beings across the city. His success is limited, with Kathi seemingly sympathetic but unable to commit to much. Elle – an arbiter of problems within the Mage community – remains a bit more reserved about the idea in general despite Rayan’s pleas that they could help each other.

Ultimately he offers to update the women with his progress in the investigation of the cult and they agree to petition to get him a meeting with the higher ranking officials of the mage community of Toronto.

The group returns to the cemetery and discover an unusual man – a private detective named Derrick Weaver. He claims to be a precog and announces to the pair that the mausoleum entrance will not open again that night.

Taking this as a challenge, Noah and Rayan set out to prove him wrong, enlisting the help of Kindred Sina and her contacts at an occult shop. Together they gather the ingredients, and open the catacombs. This time they find a secret passageway from the ritual chamber leading further down beneath the graveyard…

Within the catacombs, the three encounter a number of puzzles as they pass through a large complex. They find many books in library to investigate later as well as numerous secrets and traps. Eventually they find an experimentation room where Michael remains a prisoner in a sorry state, his arms and legs having been removed, the tortured torso relaxes due to Sina’s influence, and with Michael in tow the three attempt to find the way out of the dungeon.

Strange noises lead to creatures feasting on the flesh of unfortunate victims. Rayan, Noah, and Sina travel through the darkness to avoid the creatures, but they are alerted at the last second. The group barricade a door with the monsters within.

Shortly thereafter they find a chapel with a sacrificial alter. Additionally, Sina hears chanting from beyond another door. An attempt to distract whomever was chanting with the monsters instead leaves them face to face with not just the monsters, but Lydia – a woman keeping the creatures as pets. Refusing to negotiate with the group, Lydia and her pets are destroyed and the group escapes the catacombs.

Meanwhile, Artorias meets with RIcky, Donna’s father. As an associate of the collectors, he asks that he look after his beloved daughter and meet with her new friends the following night.

The least safe cemetery in Toronto

While on the way to the Park Lawn Cemetery, Noah gives some exasperated advice to Rayan: his apparent trusting nature makes him appear green and potentially weak – leading to getting taken advantage of by more powerful beings, and his death if not careful.

Rayan response is curiously noncommittal, but acknowledges that perceptions matter and that he should make some sort of change for future interactions.

After picking up some Rum, the three proceed to the Cemetery. Rayan clearly focused on finding Abigails’ grave, and moves swiftly towards the back where people would most likely be buried around ten years ago.

They pass a mysterious black cat by a statue that seems interested in Noah, following him around. Rayan notes Erasmus standing by a grave but ignores him. They find the grave, but it has not been kept up particularly well, now covered in weeds. Noah spies a nearby ghost and asks Rayan to distract the man beside it so that he can ask for more information.

Rayan meets with Brian and offers to talk to him about his sadness. His mother is ill and he just lost his girlfriend Roberta to an accident at a construction site – she was without her helmet and a huge pile of bricks fell on her. Rayan seems to think the liability may ultimately lead to something that might help her mother, but is relieved when a nearby elderly couple overhear and decide to take over with consoling the man.

Meanwhile, Noah speaks with the ghost of Roberta who confirms someone had been to Abby’s grave and acted in a very strange matter – mumbling to himself and then leaving with a smile on his face. She thinks he was there not long ago, and he drives a green van which might still be outside.

Noah agrees to send a message to Brian once Roberta can think of what she’d like to say so that he knows the message is truly for her, and in return will continue to watch the site. She also mentions some odd activity at the nearby mausoleum. Noah thanks her for the information and does some investigating, still followed by the peculiar cat which has the nametag Ebony.

He comes across several youths desecrating a grave in the middle of the afternoon. His Geist starts to take form, and the ethereal creature easily scares off the kids, who jump the fence. Rayan returns from the conversation with Brian, and Noah explains that Kevin might still be around and that there is potentially something suspicious going on with Kevin. They split up to search the cemetery for him. Rayan asks if Noah has a way to bring Abigail to this world, and he is uncertain – Noah suggests just finding Kevin for now.

While Rayan goes towards the lot to find the van, Noah explores the rest of the cemetery with Ebony, which appears to be leading him around. At the mausoleum he discovers four riddles with offerings. With the cat’s help, he completes the riddles, the final one resulting in the mysterious and instant death of the cat (it being the solution to the riddle). A passageway opens.

Rayan finds the green van still outside, and someone is sitting inside. He asks if it is Kevin, and is lied to. Clearly impatient, he does something drastic – a bang on the window turns into a smashed window with Rayan inside the van. A woman, Kathi, who seems to be a bit of a hippie that had been conversing with spirits in the graveyard notices and approaches. Rayan waves her off insisting that Kevin is simply sick and that he would take care of him. She backs off.

When Kevin Acula continues to lie about his identity, Rayan’s tolerance is gone completely and he inflicts a terrifying vision to Kevin – The world around him crumbles with all aspects of civilization rusting away, eaten by massive black worms that eat through his car seat, window, and the world outside, making him sick and poisoned as the things squirm and slide around him, eventually starting to devour him as well as the rest of the world. He panics, but Rayan does not relent – a touch revealing his eyes to be mirrors to Kevin’s greatest unspoken fear. The image is so horrifying that he injures himself to not see anymore. Kevin reveals that he murdered Abigail in order to get her money, as she was from a wealthy family. He had already been cheating on her at the time.

Deciding that it is time Kevin and Abigail spoke after all this time, he opens a pathway to his realm of mirrors and darkness, dragging Kevin behind him. Rayan presents her to Abigail, insisting that he reveal the truth of what has happened. Ultimately, he does and is swiftly killed by Abigail, who fades away.

Rayan returns and is confronted by Kathi. Although she cannot identify what he is, she is sure something happened and Rayan is clearly not what he appears to be. Rayan insists that he did not kill Kevin, but he got what he ultimately deserved. She offers her silence in exchange for Rayan to take her to wherever he just was – and he declines. Instead, he offers to take her number and give an opportunity to talk later and see where the conversation leads – offering at least the possibility of taking her there in the future. She reveals herself to be a mage of the Mysterium. She says Omar is likely a ‘guardian of the veil’ who will keep secrets even if it means people must die, and while there are secrets that should be kept she has a much more open view. In a future conversation, they could perhaps share some information, and she thinks she could even tell him something about the Cheiron Group. She explains she comes to this place to help put some of the restless spirits at ease, offering companionship where there is none, and Rayan finds a weird kinship with her due to his experience with burn victims in the hospital. He offers his number earnestly, and decides he really looks forward to their cup of coffee. (she insists it need not be coffee, alternately suggesting smoking a bowl or something). She finally asks him to please move the van because if something did happen to Kevin, the police might come and that would be very disruptive to the spirits. Rayan promises that he will.

Noah has solved the puzzle and Rayan arrives just in time to go in with him. He nonchalantly admits that the Kevin Acula situation has now been handled and that Abigail faded away after they saw each other (meaning she was never able to fulfill her end of the bargain, but oh well). Together they find a large, natural cavern marred with blood – dried yet recent. They follow a path and find more blood as well as a statue to Abaddon, and ultimately a sacrificial chamber with several dead bodies. Noah retrieves a german pamplet, and the two agree to investigate further, neither deposing the bodies nor notifying the police – yet.

As one final favor, Rayan asks Noah to drive his car with Delilah and follow him as he moves the van. Rayan drives to the same warehouse where the others died/were rescued, and after writing a few words on a paper, leaves it parked outside in plain view, returning to his car with Noah and departing the scene.

Stone Administration Politics
An extensive meet and greet ends with Rayan and Delilah embarking on a new(ish) quest.

The various escaped supernatural beings hold up in the Stone Administration offices – at least for a time. This gives opportunity for several meetings with various degrees of success. During this time Sina and Rayan have a conversation and then separate – Sina speaks with Robert (another vampire) while she judges the situation, and Rayan gets some information regarding a past issue relating to a ghost squatting in his lair – Abby – with Zachary. He instructs him to go to an address and meet with Lisa the next day.

Rayan later goes to the offices to do some research on the Cheiron Corp and their local offices. While there he has a conversation with Delilah, who shares his frustration on letting it go and waiting for them to strike again. This conversation leads to an invitation to accompany Rayan to meet with the mysterious Lisa the next day.

Audrey calls the assembled supernaturals to a meeting, and they speak (less the vampires, who have left save Nikali who had found… friendship with Erasmus). Rayan makes an impassioned plea to be proactive about the Cheiron kidnappings while Audrey suggests it was simply due to some supernatural beings being too visible and careless.

Delilah, Donna, and Warren agree with Rayan that something should be done, and Audrey ultimately relents to allow them to at least investigate (or, at least not care if they are investigating) agreeing to potentially do something if enough evidence is presented to suggest action need be taken. For the time being, the assembled supernaturals being to create a phone network to protect each other should another kidnapping occur, with the small group planning on reaching out to other supernaturals to join in the network.

The next day, Delilah and Rayan head to Typo where they enter the secret downstairs “deadroom”, a special library for supernatural folks. Lisa is a mage capable of searching for people, but in this case has a book that indicates where dead people are buried. They are able to track down Abigail Harrison’s grave site.

While at the deadroom, Delilah and Rayan are amazed by some of what they find – including a mysterious book that can communicate. It seems the spirit of a new-kingdom egyptian named Shabaka. Lisa claims the book is not part of their collection, and oddly it originally only speaks with Rayan and Deliliah. She gives them the book, as well as some additional equipment. It appears Zachary is helping more than he initially suggested, getting them two magic weapons (a knife for Rayan, and a club for Delilah) as well as goggles to see spirits.

They are overheard by Noah, a sin-eater who happened to be at the deadroom. When he hears of their activity in helping resolve the anchor of a ghost by finding Abby’s lost husband / fiance, he offers his aid which is immediately accepted.

Cheiron, INC

Delilah , Nikali, and John were loaded in to a bus handcuffed and blindfolded. They drove around for hours while heading for an unknown destination. Sina, followed shortly behind, having hidden herself on top of one of the other military vehicles in the convoy.

The bus arrived at an old factory and Delilah, NIkali and John were taken to some cells within a surprisingly advanced industrial complex. While within, Delilah meets with an motley crew of other supernatural beings including a Vampire named Robert, a Promethian named Warren, a Sin-Eater named Frank, and a Goblin named Tek Roxbit. They had all been imprisoned for a varying length of time and spoke of experiments being done to others.

Meanwhile, Audrey calls another meeting attended by the standard Stone crew. She brings in Zachary to confirm a suspicion she’s had – Supernatural creatures are being taken, including all of the original group of prisoners she had freed. Rayan is miffed this information was withheld while waiting for confirmation, leading to a brief moment of honesty and sharing.

The crew loads up and heads out to rescue the others.

Delilah is taken by an… eccentric doctor calling herself ‘Cinderella’. meanwhile, Sina has successfully infilitrated the base (learning that they were only 20 minutes away in the process). She observes the defenses and waits for the moment to strike, still quite curious about Delilah.

While Sina lies in wait in a room of a past bloody experiment (later revealed to be John), Delilah is cornered in an office by Cinderella, but the tables are turned. Having underestimated the young woman, Delilah released the powers of her beast – bending Cinderella to her whim. When she learns the truth, in horror she reveals a bit more of her power, frightening her severely.

Firmly in control, Delilah intends to escape with Cinderella’s aid. When the guards make this seem less likely, Sina strikes turning the tables again. Interested only in escape, Sina is dismayed when Delilah hesitates, looking to rescue the others – but soon Sina is on board. Together they devise a plan and after a distraction, Sina rallies the supernatural creatures to break free.

Down the hall, they encounter the Stone administration which has already neutralized the outer defenses. They provide a means of escape after discovering the fate of Roy, Jaclyn, and Sadie.

The remaining supernaturals return to the campaign offices of the Stone Administration to plan their next move…

A night to remember.

Twelve days have passed. Elsewhere in Toronto, young men and women are out looking for a good time, no different than many times before.

However, for the men and women who attend the Piston, this night was not one they would forget.

A mysterious young woman eagerly awaits entry in a line to the bar, only watching as an incredibly attractive – almost… supernaturally attractive – woman bypasses the line completely and gains entrance. The woman, Delilah, befriends an anxious man in line before her and they decide to enter the club together.

Unbeknownst to her, another slides in to the club as well – a figure cloaked in shadow.

Within the bar the attractive woman, Nikali, has gained the attention of the whole establishment. She dances and she makes sure all are watching, but when Delilah enters, she immediately notices her and they approach each other. It is clear to them both that there is something unique about each other, but they play a cat and mouse game of trying to determine, what, exactly, that is.

Sina, the woman cloaked in shadow, watches from afar with interest. She notes some women behaving obnoxiously, and insists to the two young men speaking to them that they can do better. Surprised and perturbed, the men leave. She overhears Delilah ultimately admit that she knows that both she and Nikali are not human and joins them – others can hear their words.

A ruffian approaches Delilah and attacks her when he is spurned. Despite slamming in to and grabbing the young woman, her touch and words quickly cause the man to regret his actions – soon he is calling his mother to admit his deeds.

After this, Nikali continues to use her own awe-inspiring abilities to seduce Delilah. The two retire to the restroom in the heat of passion.

Meanwhile, Sina follows a woman in to the restrooms where she reveals herself to be a vampire, feeding in the darkness on the woman and sating her beast – yet leaving her victim unaware and left with only a feeling of ecstasy.

Not long later, the club is interrupted by an assault of what seems to be a large group of well trained men. A man in a shirt with a knife touches people on the head and clears them to leave – not so for our vampires and beast, who quickly find themselves in a tense encounter. Despite escaping to the parking lot, they are cornered and ultimately blindfolded and led on a bus flanked by military style vehicles, completely unaware of what the future may hold . . .

Tranquility Gardens and a new world.

That night, the group had terrible nightmares – reminiscent of the ones that had experienced before they changed. The next morning Rayan arrived at the meeting point early and was soon met by Sadie. Together they entered the back of the building early under guise of making sure it was safe, and instead encountered Zachary Cooper.

Zachary was the mage Audrey had organized to teach them about their lairs, but he did not appear impressive. Instead, he slept in a steam room and was only awoken when Sadie turned it off. Miffed, he prepared for the session while Sadie and Rayan met up with Donna – Edwin would come later as he had something else to attend to.

The process was fairly mundane and they relaxed. Zachary wanted them to think of where they were most safe, a process that Rayan found most difficult.

Shortly after the meditation began, they found themselves in a forest, and down a short path there was an old cabin in the woods. It was familiar to Sadie – a home her father had owned that they visited in her youth. Within they encountered a small goblin-like creature who called himself Wykx and Sadie met her true self – the horror known as The Mother Crow.

After this, Rayan again tried the process. Instead of being somewhere safe, he found himself – and the others, in a massive dark chamber filled of mirrors. When he looked in the mirror, he saw not safety – but the truth. His form revealed, he moved around what he now knew to be his true domain. Instead of finding his friends, he found a mysterious young woman – a ghost named Abby Harrison. She had died in an accident shortly after marriage, and was looking for her husband Kevin Acula. She could sense he was still alive, and was ‘close’.

Rayan bargained with the ghost, asking for only a secret for his help. She was amazed by his kindness, despite his appearance…

Sometime later, John Buckner has a serious and dangerous encounter at his home, where he is badly beaten and left for dead.

A meeting for answers, but instead more questions.

Jaclyn, Sadie, Edwin and Rayan meet at the Stone Campaign offices for the designated meeting.

There, they meet with Audrey, Erasmas, Tina, and surprisingly Donna. They talk frankly and believe the mission that Gilmore has set out is achievable, and while they give some practical knowledge on beasts and their own origins – Audrey explains an expert – who is a mage – will be explaining the psychological aspects of beasthood, as well as explore the primordial dream – the following day. Donna has also gotten in her own set of trouble and will be on this mission with them.

Anxious about what they’ve heard, and ready to actually learn more, the group uneasily waits for the next day.

Later that night, Edwin and Donna make up for their uneasy original meeting and have some Chinese food. Edwin agrees to let Donna stay at his place.

Bribes, Steaks, and Obnoxious roommates.

While at a bar, Edwin encounters a woman named Donna who – does something – to make them instantly friends. He brings her back to his place on the back of his bike, and she suggests he rest and watch Adventure time while she makes some steaks.

Edwin suddenly realizes he does know this woman and kicks her out, having to explain her appearance to his roommate Laura. She was concerned he was on drugs but was happy to watch Game of Thrones.

Edwin later makes an effort to draw the woman he saw, spending time to make a spectacular portrait.

Jaclyn returns to her dorm and encounters her pretentious, obnoxiously, ‘valley girl’ roommate, Lindsey. Ignoring her stories about a fantastic new sushi restaurant, she retires to study for her upcoming anthropology 101 exam, doing quite well. Somewhere, her professor is proud.

She takes the bus and arrives at the Stone Administration campaign offices before 8PM.

Sadie arrives at the Ebony Blue Cafe well before Rayan, and while waiting inspects the package and finds it to be files and a large sum of money – potentially a bribe. She then encounters a young man who shyly leaves a note for her. When confronted, he admits he wanted to ask her on a date to a concert. After confirming he was 18, she agreed.

Rayan arrived and they briefly spoke of their experiences, with Rayan concerned about an increasing loss of his self while he deals with a growing hunger for punishment. They travel together to the office of T. Harris and meet Vanessa, a standoffish receptionist who ultimately tells them a little more about what it is to be a beast. Rayan playfully suggests they snope about Vanessa’s desk when she leaves with the package, and Sadie cannot help but pretend to be Vanessa and out the organization for accepting bribes. One Canadian hick is left very unhappy that his potholes are not repaired.

They proceed to the offices, bypassing an ex-boyfriend of Sadie’s – Looper. Rayan and Sadie admit to each other that they do not feel comfortable seeing old friends right now – they hardly even understand themselves and need to get answers first.

They proceed to the campaign office and speak with Tina, who reveals her beast, some of her insecurities, and that she also thinks Vanessa is a bit bitchy. They order Indian food, and Erasmus proves to be as obnoxious as ever, licking his lips around Sadie when out of Tina’s view.

They all go to the meeting, and Audrey introduces Donna as someone who will be joining them.

Co-Starring: A Demonic Police Chief and some Coffee

After being told they would be taken to the police station for questioning the next morning, Jaclyn, Rayan, and Roy spent their time in different ways during the long wait – while Jaclyn struggled knowing that she would not be able to see her family for awhile longer (ed note: although surely they could have visited her… how dickish, amirite?) , Rayan went to his room to recuperate and write a long overdue note/letter to his friend and fellow patient, Arika. Roy, meanwhile, was out of the hospital as soon as possible – visiting a bar to medicate via his own method of choice.

The next morning they prepared for the meeting with some coffee and ran in to Edwin – a young, eccentric fellow. Edwin is an artist – using people, or so he claims – for what must be some real avant garde stuff. Like the others, he came to the hospital with no memory of the night before. Although they had never met, all of them found each other strangely familiar….

While leaving the hospital, a thuggish messenger named John forcibly ran in to Edwin. Despite Roy’s intimidating protection, John had a chip on his shoulder that would not be smoothed and he pushed at Edwin, attracting the attention of Wendy the policewoman. They also were taken for questioning at the precinct.

Meanwhile, Sadie continued to explore the Stone campaign offices and attempted to access Audrey Stone’s personal office – but was stopped by Erasmus Karras. After some quickwitted mocking, Sadie was forced to flee as Erasmus showed a serpentine “beast” self which both fatigued and frightened the girl.

The next morning, Tina showed Sadie the rest of the office where they met the extremely human Ted. After some hijinks with coffee, she met with Audrey who said that the others would be taken care of an all would meet later that night, and she had a small mission for her – a package delivery – to be made in the meantime.

At the police station, Wendy was revealed to be involved in interrogation and took statements from everyone. John claimed he was attacked by Edwin, but was ultimately removed from the room. The four met with the police chief James L Gilmore, who revealed himself to be a Demon. He would do Audrey a favor and let them free, providing they do him a simple service, first – finding a rival demon, murdering him, and returning his head.

The beginning...
It all has to start somewhere.

We awoke bound and blindfolded on a school bus and led to a warehouse district of Toronto.

The surly man with ginger hair and what amounted to a heavily armed militia led us down in to a sort of bunker where we were separated in cells. The cells had evidence they had been used before, and there was a lot of blood. They were kept there for nearly a day.

Rayan was taken to the sickbay for his injuries – the men claimed they had nothing to do with it.

Sadie tried to comfort Jaclyn while making efforts for her escape, suggesting they were on a date with the two older men and were caught up in something they did not understand. They did receive some sympathy from Brett, but he was unable to free them.

Roy was interrogated and easy batted aside the accusations of the militant, causing him to question his cause. The success was limited, and he more sure than ever that their inevitable doom was at hand.

Sadie was interrogated as well and proclaimed her innocence under the attempts of the militia to divide and conquer.

Rayan was told that Roy was the monster, and he suggested that the men who had kidnapped them were monsters. Apparently talking back to man with big machete was not a great idea – he got stabbed.

Gunfire erupted and Sadie and Jaclyn were rescued by Erasmus and Omar. A timid woman named Tina rescued Roy, and Audrey Stone, conservative candidate for mayor of Toronto came in the interrogation room just in time to throw around Stanley and rescue Rayan.

Upon escape, Roy called the police while Rayan asked for medical assistance. Sadie chose to leave with their liberators, and the others headed to the hospital.
